Editorial & Content Manager

by Humankind is looking for an Editorial & Content Manager to lead content development and distribution efforts across social, email, web, and external platforms. This role will concept and produce content that supports our mission — to reduce single-use plastic in the products we use in our daily routines — from ideation to implementation. 

As a part of our small, but mighty team you will lead a number of important company initiatives related to our growth. You believe small changes ladder up to a big impact, and think in terms of solutions, not problems. This is an excellent opportunity to experience a fast growing startup, while working directly with our founding team. This role is based in our offices in New York and reports to our CMO.

Responsibilities —  

  • Content Strategy: You will develop a content strategy for by Humankind that supports our mission, products, and provides value to our community.
  • Content Creation & Production: You will lead content creation for by Humankind (written and visual), working both internally and with external partners.
  • Content Distribution:  You’ll collaborate with the internal team, making strategic decisions on marketing channel (social, email, site etc.) content cadence and distribution.

Requirements — 

  • 2+ years developing editorial content for a consumer brand or at a
    creative agency.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining a content
    marketing calendar.
  • Strong copywriting and research skills.
  • Graphic design background preferred. Proficient in Adobe creative suite.
  • Prior experience in managing social media channels for a consumer brand.
  • Genuine interest in how brands target, acquire, and retain customers.
  • A creative mindset who also understands how to use data effectively.
  • A "get it done," no task is too small attitude.
  • A passion for staying on top of relevant industry research and incorporating that into interesting content.
  • Prior experience managing email marketing, a plus.

Director of Performance Marketing

by Humankind is looking for a full-stack performance marketer to lead our customer acquisition & retention efforts, as well as customer insights / marketing analytics. We’re looking for a candidate with a passion for data-driven decision making and finding innovative ways to grow the by Humankind community.

As a part of our small, but mighty team you will spearhead a number of important company initiatives related to growth, mission, and marketing. Responsibilities —

  • Acquisition & retention channel strategy and day-to-day management: You will author the playbook for growth across all performance channels, owning growth strategy, execution, attribution, reporting and analysis.
  • Testing: You’ll vet and test emerging growth & retention opportunities - including new channels, targeting, audiences, creative, messaging, etc.
  • Performance: You will have ownership of all growth & retention KPIs.
  • Budgeting: Ownership of marketing spend and budgeting across channels.
  • Reporting: You’ll lead regular reporting on performance marketing efforts, keeping cross-functional teams up to speed.
  • Cross-functional and external collaboration: You’ll work across all departments and teams to move key objectives forward.
  • Customer Insights / Marketing Analytics: As the internal expert on our customers, you'll lead reporting and analysis on customer behavior and trends at a macro and channel detail level, as well as mapping the by Humankind customer journey across all touch-points.

Requirements —

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Minimum three years experience in a growth, retention, or consumer insights role at a consumer brand or agency.
  • Strong analytical background.
  • Budget management and experience.
  • Ability to understand new issues quickly and identify appropriate available inputs for making informed decisions, at times with incomplete data.

Director of Business Intelligence

Responsibilities —

  • Drive high-level strategic decisions, by identifying and communicating opportunity and risk associated, backed by data.
  • Own the data architecture, business intelligence, and financial functions of the business.
  • Lead the company’s fiscal activity, including budgeting, reporting, financial modeling, and strategic planning.
  • Assure legal and regulatory documents are filed and monitor compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Work well with team members to develop and keep current our financial model and strategic plan.

Requirements —

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, CPA. MBA is preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum two years experience in a senior position at a consumer brand.
  • Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management and general finance and budgeting.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Experience with corporate governance.
  • Experience with budget management, public accounting, and cash flow.
  • Ability to understand new issues quickly and identify appropriate available inputs for making informed decisions, at times with incomplete data.

Director of Communications

by Humankind is looking for a Director of Communications to lead our communications, public relations, and partnership efforts. This role will tell the by Humankind story through ongoing media coverage that builds awareness for our brand, products, and mission — to reduce single-use plastic in the products we use in our daily routines.

Responsibilities —

  • Brand communications strategy, messaging, media assets.
  • Secure dedicated editorial & business profile coverage for by Humankind.
  • Garner media coverage around significant company announcements (new products or categories, mission-milestones, partnerships, fundraising etc).
  • Ongoing product placement, awards/recognition lists, speaking engagements, podcasts & other founder media opportunities (ie bylines, broadcast segments, commentary, executive profiles).
  • Conduct all press-outreach (consumer, lifestyle, business, tech etc) and own media relations.
  • Develop, execute, and promote brand partnerships, ranging from product collaborations, events, policy, and charitable partnerships.

Requirements —

  • You have either 3+ years experience as an Account Executive for consumer brands at a PR agency or managing communications / PR efforts at a consumer brand (beauty & wellness preferred).
  • You have a proven track record of developing and implementing a communications strategy for a consumer brand(s) and securing coverage that supports key business objectives.
  • You are a critical thinker who can think strategically, but are also highly execution-oriented with a no task too small attitude.
  • You have strong storytelling skills, both verbal and written.
  • Love writing, proofreading (though maybe not as much), as well as research-based learning.
  • You have a creative mindset, but also understand how to use data to improve your results.
  • You have a passion for staying on top of relevant industry topics and incorporating them into interesting media narratives.

Responsibilities — 

  • Connect with customers through daily email and text conversations. You’re very helpful.
  • Collect and report trends in customer feedback, reviews, and requests.

  • Coordinate gifting to influencers, partners, and friends of the brand.
  • Assist the team as needed on marketing, social media, & product initiatives.
